The Client's Challenge

The need for consistency

In an effort to increase market penetration with their unique HVO products, GBF introduced a refuelling package that included pumps, fuel management systems, gauging, and gauge interfaces. However, the tank manufacturers working with GBF encountered several challenges:

  • They lacked experience in connecting the various components, leading to inconsistencies in the build quality of the tank packages.
  • The use of non-standard equipment from different manufacturers made it difficult to ensure uniformity.
  • These inconsistencies resulted in an increased number of commissioning visits, adding time and cost to the process.

The Solution

A comprehensive approach

Hytek’s Project Team stepped in to address these issues and developed a comprehensive solution. Here’s how we tackled the challenges:

  • Fuel Management Package Redesign: We redeveloped the fuel management package. We integrated the O.L.E. gauge and interface board within a single housing. Therefore, this reduced the number of connections required when installing the system in the tank cabinet, simplifying the process.
  • Standardised Pump Models: By collaborating with the various tank manufacturers, we were able to standardise the range of pumps to just two models. Thereby making installation more consistent.
  • Clear Installation Guidelines: We created standard installation instructions and wiring diagrams, providing a clear and consistent process for all manufacturers to follow.
  • Electrical Testing Protocols: To ensure quality and reliability, we developed standard electrical test processes. These processes confirmed the proper connectivity of the pump, fuel management system, and gauge before the tanks were dispatched.

The Results

  • Standardisation: We successfully standardised the pump and fuel management systems for each size of tank package, leading to more uniform builds across different manufacturers.

  • FC20i Product Development: As a result of this successful project, we created the FC20i standard product, which is now being used in other applications.
