However, recent developments demonstrate that effective solutions can be delivered even with tight budgets. Here, we share a compelling case study showcasing how cost-effective fuel management solutions were implemented for G & K Logistics by Ideal Tanks & Pumps. The Challenge: Budget Constraints and High Demands Ideal Tanks & Pumps, a trade distributor and installer based in Northampton, received a request from G & K Logistics for an onsite refuelling facility. Cost considerations were paramount. Mark Robinson at Ideal Tanks identified a 50,000-litre tank that met their diesel bulk storage requirements and kept costs down by supplying a fully refurbished tank with a brand-new tank cabinet. This cabinet housed the dispensing pump and fuel management system securely behind a roller shutter door. G & K Logistics operates 19 vehicles, including vans and 44-tonne car transporters. Given their serious operational demands, they required a high-speed, accurate 90-litre-per-minute dispensing pump to minimize downtime and ensure precise refuelling. Mark recommended the Pumptronics high-speed ALPHA diesel dispensing pump, which connects directly to the Pumptronics FC20i fuel management system (FMS) with its built-in pulsed output. Advanced Fuel Management with the FC20i System The FC20i FMS only allows authorized personnel to dispense fuel, providing G & K Logistics with detailed insights into who is refuelling which vehicles. The cloud-based reports generated by the FC20i are easily accessible, offering valuable metrics such as MPG, which help in identifying vehicles needing servicing or drivers who could benefit from training. Mark emphasized the comprehensive reporting capabilities of the Pumptronics FC20i, which includes an integral O.L.E. T5020 electronic diesel tank gauge with an accuracy of +/-0.25%, matching the precision of the ALPHA diesel dispenser meter. This integration saves installation time and costs associated with a separate tank gauge interface unit. The gauge data is also fed back to the FC20i’s cloud reporting software, providing real-time updates on tank deliveries, low tank warnings, and alarms. AdBlue® Solutions for Comprehensive Management In addition to diesel, G & K Logistics required a tank for AdBlue®. Ideal Tanks & Pumps supplied and installed a 5000-litre AdBlue® tank equipped with a SUB.4 submersible pump from Hytek. This pump connects to a Hytek Piusi pulse meter, which in turn is linked to a HYTEK ENGINEERED remote nozzle hanger pedestal. The pedestal’s nozzle switch controls the submersible tank pump and integrates with the FC20i FMS, allowing G & K Logistics to monitor AdBlue® refuelling accurately. Conclusion: Reliable and Future-Proof Solutions at Sensible Costs G & K Logistics needed a robust refuelling solution that offered reliability and comprehensive remote reporting capabilities. They achieved this with the Pumptronics FC20i FMS, which also features a CO₂ reporting function, ensuring their operations are both efficient and environmentally conscious.
