All You need to know about HVO

If you don’t have time to read the full article click here for the main benefits of HVO:

What is HVO?

Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) is a fully renewable drop-in diesel alternative. It is made from vegetable and animal residue from the food and agriculture industries.

It has the same specifications as standard diesel, meaning it is completely interchangeable and can be blended at any percentages (%) without any required vehicles modifications, whilst reducing levels of local emissions drastically:

  • Net GHG Emissions by 90%
  • Nitrogen Oxide Emissions by 27%
  • PM Emissions by 84%

Production Process:

During the hydrotreating process, oxygen is removed from triglycerides and/or fatty acids feedstocks. Depending on the feedstock qualities and process parameters, the end products comprise of straight-chained hydrocarbons (paraffins) with various properties and molecular sizes. In most cases, the conversion is done in two sequential stages:

  1. Hydrotreatment
  2. Hydrocracking/Isomerization

The production of HVO is well-developed at industrial scale

Is my equipment compatible with HVO?

All of Hytek’s Diesel products are ‘HVO Compatible’.

Diesel Products Are HVO Compatible

Is HVO affordable?

We recognize that in comparison to normal diesel, HVO is more costly. However, using HVO as a mixed component inside regular diesel might help you save money.

The combined HVO/Diesel mix can help your company lower emissions at a cost that works for them.

Blend Table:

HVO (%) 20% 30% 50% 100%
CO2 reduction (WtW) 18% 27% 45% 90%

Well-to-Wheel (in short WtW) is the first step in comparing the efficiency of different solutions towards Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Those GHG emissions are so crucial to mitigate because simply put, they cause climate change
