They use a mesh or perforated metal screen to filter out debris from the fuel. The fuel passes through the mesh, which captures any large particles, while clean fuel flows through to the downstream components. Depending on the application, strainers are often installed in-line (within the fuel line) or at the inlet of pumps and other equipment. The size of particles a strainer can capture depends on the mesh size. This can range from coarse to fine depending on the needs of the system.
