Fuel Polishing System For Diesel Storage Tank | SAFA

Our Fuel Polishing System for fuel storage tanks recirculates and conditions the fuel, preventing fuel degradation inside the fuel storage tank. Thus, the diesel bugs, microbes cannot take hold and block dispensing pump filters and, or vehicles, machinery filters. This is a must-have for fuel tanks that are left unused for periods of 20 days plus.

HYTEK/INPRO Agreement: Madrid, March, 2025 – The Spanish-German Inpro Group, a leading provider of fuel transfer and energy solutions for critical infrastructure for over 50 years, has signed a strategic commercial agreement with the UK-based Hytek GB Ltd to cover their range of products suitable for suitable for critical power installations.

Description

Our Fuel Polishing System for diesel tanks has become essential for anyone storing fuel that isn’t used regularly—specifically, fuel that sits for more than 20 days. This system is a valuable addition to the Hytek Critical Power Solutions product range, and we are excited to offer the Inpro Fuel Polishing System as part of our generator genset solutions.

As a crucial component for diesel-powered emergency systems, our Fuel Polishing System helps eliminate a key point of failure. If our standard offering doesn't meet your client’s specifications, we can create a tailored Fuel Polishing System solution. Just email us your requirements at solutions@hytekgb.com.

We also offer a complete range of equipment for diesel-powered generator sets, not just the SAFA Fuel Polishing System. With the support of Inpro and our own product range, we can provide the best solution to meet your needs.

Our range includes fuel handling equipment for automatic fuel supply to burners, backup diesel generators' day tanks, and the Backup Diesel Generator Control Panel CAGFMC PLC, which allows sensor inputs to control the generator sets.

In conclusion, we have the right solution for your customer’s needs. If you require a bespoke solution or have a specific specification, contact us at solutions@hytekgb.com.

Why Buy A Fuel Polishing System:

  • Prevents diesel storage tanks from becoming a breeding ground for the diesel bug.
  • Popular in the critical power backup generator sector or where fuel is left unused for long periods.
  • Microbial contamination diesel bugs in fuel storage tanks is becoming a major issue.
  • The first signs are when generators stop working or pump filters block, resulting in hefty repair bills.
  • The latest fuels contain a percentage of biofuel up to 7%, an ideal breeding ground for the diesel bug.
  • Biofuel acts as a detergent cleaning the inside of the storage tank, allowing dirt to be sucked up by the pumps blocking filters.
  • Over time, these microbes, bugs grow into large colony-forming units (CFUs) which get sucked into fuel lines blocking filters.
  • Storage tanks, particularly those with low usage, require a permanent system to keep these microbes, diesel bug dormant by re-circulating fuel to ensure effective microbial treatment.
  • A fuel polishing system recirculates and conditions the fuel preventing fuel degradation inside the tank.
  • The fuel passes through a pre-filter conditioner to prevent microbial growth.
  • Fuel is automatically circulated for a preset number of times periods recirculating the tank contents.
  • We recommend the fuel contents of the tank is automatically recirculated 1.5 times every 28 days.

Fuel Polishing System Automatic Mode

  • When the automatic mode is selected, the days and filtration run time can be set up.
  • The total filtering time per tank, which can be up to 59 minutes, is scheduled to run each day.
  • Once the filtration time for tank 1 is finished, the system then continues with the next tank, automatically opening and closing the corresponding solenoid valves. Furthermore, the process can be stopped at any time by pressing "off," and as a result, the program is suspended.

Automatic Drain protocol

  • The two filters have a separate water detector installed. Automatic drain protocol will be activated.
  • Solenoid valve opens the drain for 30 minutes. The filter system stays blocked for 10 minutes.
  • Each filter has a water detection gauge on the housing.
  • These filters have a differential pressure drop gauge indicating a clogged filter.

The Fuel Polishing System Filter Protocol Will Be Affected By:

  • Should the pump supply to the tank become starved, filtration will stop for 10 minutes, prioritising fuel supply to the tanks.
  • If the system is operating manually the filter process is stopped, switching to automatic mode.
  • After 10 minutes of filtering override the system will resume the filtering protocol if it still remains within the programmed cycle time frame (up to 59 minutes), as long as the start of the filling pumps has finished.
  • If the pressure increases to 3 bar, it will stop until it goes down to 2 bar. A local alarm is displayed on the LCD display and is triggered remotely via Modbus.
  • The system can detect a leak at its collecting drip tray infrared sensor, the system will be blocked and a local alarm is displayed on the LCD display and is triggered remotely via Modbus.
  • Low level alarm at the tank or manhole a leak will be detected.
  • The system under automatic mode will ignore any tank in alarm during the run cycle, until that alarm is solved.
  • Under manual mode it will also not allow the tank in alarm condition to start.

Features And Benefits Of Our Fuel Polishing System:

  • Fully automatic fuel polisher and drain system.
  • Particles and water removal from fuel, prevents bacteria, molds and yeasts (diesel fuel bug).
  • Programable recirculation protocol.
  • All activity and alarms are displayed on the LCD touchscreen and remotely via Modbus connects up to 6 storage tanks from 1,000 litres to 100,000 litres each.
  • Filter 1, 50 micron, right hand side, participle filter.
  • Filter 2, 15 micron, left hand side, water absorbent filter paper.
  • Pressure gauge, glycerine filled. Analogue pressure switch 0-10 bar.
  • Fuel recirculation pump and motor, 1,500 litres per hour, 400V. 230V available special order.
  • Filter housings water viewer, electrode type. Filter housings dirty filter warning.
  • Water draining solenoid valve, 3/8" drain line.
  • Water draining pump solenoid type 12 litres per hour drain line. Water presence gauge.
  • Differential pressure gauge, as clogged filter indicator.
  • Filter housings water drain off pipe. Filter housings automatic air vent.
  • Junction box housing. Leak detector, infrared detector sits in leek, drip tray.
  • Sensors for water detection to start automatic water drain. Manual drain ball valves.
  • Vacuum gauge. Fuel meter with pulse transmitter.
  • Frame, skid 1,100mm H x 1,300mm x 560mm D.
  • The fuel conditioner breaks the bond between the microbes (CFUs), allowing them to be burnt off harmlessly in the engines combustion chamber.
  • 1 year parts warranty.
  • Maximum working pressure 6 bar. Maximum system pressure 10 bar.
  • Filter protocol, the status of the system is displayed on the PLC screen, you can modify the working modes, see alarm and cancel the system..

Fuel Polishing System LCD Touch Screen And Control Cabinet:

  • Software programmed PLC controller with touch screen.
  • Control cabinet, housing weatherproof 600mm x 600mm x 200mm epoxy painted finish.
  • Analog and digital inputs and outputs. Modbus communication.
  • Motor starters and thermal protection for motor pumps. 24Vdc power supply transformer terminals.
  • System mounted with all equipment. Factory tested and ready to set up.
  • Control cabinet IP66, metal epoxy painted with PLC controller display mounted in front panel.
