How Radar Level Measurement Works

Radar level measurement

Introducing Our New OLE Radar Gauge Kits

Accurate tank level measurement is critical across many industrial environments, but traditional technologies do not always cope well with challenging conditions. Vapour, condensation, temperature changes, internal obstructions and moving liquids can all lead to unreliable readings and unnecessary maintenance.

Our new OLE Radar Gauge Kits combine advanced radar sensing technology with proven tank gauge hardware, delivering dependable, non contact level measurement even in the harshest environments.

How Radar Level Measurement Works

  • Radar level sensors operate by emitting high frequency electromagnetic waves towards the surface of a liquid or solid material inside a tank. These waves reflect back to the sensor, and the system calculates the level based on the time it takes for the signal to return.
  • Because radar measures distance rather than relying on physical contact, it remains stable and accurate where other technologies struggle.

Key advantages of radar measurement include:

  • Non contact operation with no moving parts or direct contact with the process material
  • Unaffected by vapour, foam or condensation
  • Consistent accuracy despite temperature or pressure changes
  • Reliable performance in agitated or turbulent tanks

High Frequency Radar for High Accuracy

Our radar gauge kits use 80 GHz radar technology, allowing the sensor to focus its signal in a very narrow beam. This improves accuracy and reduces interference from internal tank fittings, agitators or pipework. With measurement accuracy down to ±1 mm, operators can rely on precise, repeatable readings for both inventory control and process monitoring.

Designed for Real World Conditions

Radar technology excels in environments that are traditionally difficult to measure. Whether the application involves diesel, AdBlue®, biodiesel or other compatible fluids, radar provides dependable results without the need for frequent recalibration.

Key features include:

  • 4 to 20 mA output with HART communication for easy system integration
  • IP67 protection for harsh outdoor and wash down environments
  • ATEX approval for use in hazardous areas
  • Compatibility with standard and ATEX approved tank gauges

Complete Kits for Simple Installations OLE Radar Gauge Kits are supplied as complete, ready to install solutions. Each kit includes the radar sensor paired with our standard gauge kits, such as the C2020, T5020 and ATEX approved configurations
